The 1973 musical by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler gave the world "Send in the Clowns," the show's ode to all who are made fools of by love. Hoty gets the choice number, ruminating on bittersweet past love. "Guiding Light" star Newman plays a dragoon who is married to Charlotte (Beth Leavel) but keeps actress Desiree as his mistress. Desiree, meanwhile, is reunited with former lover, Frederik (played by Broadway Falsettos veteran Stephen Bogardus), who is married to an 18-year-old virigin, Anne (played by Christeena Michelle Riggs). Hoty is a Broadway veteran of The Will Rogers Follies, City of Angels and Mamma Mia!
Louisa Flaningan, a seasoned Broadway performer with roles in Guys and Dolls, The Magic Show and Play Me a Country Song, plays Desiree's mother, Madame Armfeldt. Aaron Ramey (the national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie) plays Frederik's distracted theology-student son, Henrik Egerman.
Michelle Dawson plays lusty maid Petra.
Barry Ivan directs and choreographs. Tom Helm is musical director.
