Mike Shaieb, the emerging composer whose musicals The Golden State and Go Go Beach have been seen in Manhattan readings, is heard in Dogs That Wear Hats, an evening of songs Nov. 10-11 at the NYU Black Box in Manhattan.

Sandy Binion (Jane Eyre), Joe Cassidy (Les Misérables), Roger DeWitt (3hree), Joseph P. McDonnell (Candide), James Sasser (Suburb) and Coleen Sexton (Jekyll & Hyde) perform a range of new songs, with lyrics by Shaieb, Katie Baldwin, Judy Eron, Diana Hansen-Young, Brent Lord, Stephen Tomac and John Wimbs, Jr.

Stephen Tomac directs, Mary-Mitchell Campbell music directs. Sean Flahaven produces as part of the Second Avenue Songbook series, a forum provided by Tisch School of the Arts to show off the work of its graduates. Shaieb graduated from New York University's Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program in 1999.

The show includes a couple of specialty songs about Shaieb's labrador retrievers, and a couple of tunes from Go Go Beach, the musical comedy he co-wrote with composer Brent Lord and bookwriter-lyricist John Wimbs.

The collaborators are preparing for a fall 2003 workshop of Go Go Beach, which had a Manhattan reading in summer 2001. Performances are 6 PM Nov. 10 and 5 PM Nov. 11. The NYU Black Box is at 113 Second Avenue between Sixth and Seventh Streets in the East Village. Admission is free, but reservations are required. For information, call (212) 992-9322.
