News Sh-K-Boom to Release Jacques Brel Revival Cast Recording Sh-K-Boom Records will release the cast recording of the current Off-Broadway revival of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris in November.

On the official Jacques Brel website, musical director Eric Svejcar writes, "It’s been a long, exhausting, exhilarating process, but it’s finally done. The Jacques Brel CD is finished and has been sent off for reproduction. It’s recorded, mixed, and mastered. And in my biased, hypercritical opinion, it sounds pretty amazing. . . . I really think it will be able to stand alongside the original Off-Broadway album as a definitive version of Brel. I can’t wait for people to hear it."

The 22-track CD will feature 77 minutes of tunes from the acclaimed revival at the Zipper Theatre. Additional songs from the show, which could not fit on the single CD, will be available for downloading on-line at iTunes.

The Brel disc was recorded at Skyline Studios on 37th Street. In addition to the show's musicians, the CD will also feature guitar player George Petit and violinist Joe Brent. The recording will be available at the Zipper Theatre in October; Sh-K-Boom will release the disc at a date-to-be-announced in November.

The revival of Jacques Brel — directed by Gordon Greenberg — plays Off-Broadway's Zipper Theatre. Greenberg's production features the cast of four on the intimate Zipper stage with just a few set pieces and the occasional prop: a chair, a couch, a few suitcases and several glasses of alcohol. Staircases are located on both sides of the stage, one for entrances and another that leads to the small band, whose pianist, Svejcar, often joins the singers. Song titles include "Le Diable (Ca Va)," "If We Only Have Love," "Alone," "I Loved," "Jackie," "My Childhood," "Madeleine," "Bachelor's Dance," "Fanette," "Le Moribund," "The Desperate Ones," "Timid Frieda," "The Statue," "Sons of," "Amsterdam," "The Bulls," "Brussels," "Ne Me Quitte Pas," "The Middle Class," "Old Folks," "Funeral Tango," "My Death," "Marieke," "Songs for Old Lovers," "Next," "You're Not Alone," "Carousel" and "If We Only Have Love."

The Brel revival opened with a cast that included Robert Cuccioli, Natascia Diaz, Gay Marshall and Rodney Hicks. Drew Sarich recently replaced Hicks.
