As previously reported, Michael Greif will stage The Winter's Tale, which will run in repertory with The Merchant of Venice (directed by Daniel Sullivan and starring Al Pacino) at the Delacorte Theater June 9-Aug. 1.

While Kitt told Playbill.com that much of his work will be underscoring for the action, he said, "There are also some 'songlets' in Winter's Tale that I've written music for."

The project reunites Kitt with director Greif, who earned a Tony Award nomination for his direction on Next to Normal. "It's been a dream of mine to work in the park," Kitt added.

Last season's Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night featured a score (and numerous songs) by Brooklyn-based acoustic group Hem and resulted in an album of songs from the show.

Kitt currently serves as musical supervisor/arranger/orchestrator for the Green Day musical American Idiot, which begins previews on Broadway March 24. He has penned the score to High Fidelity (with Amanda Green) and Next to Normal (with Brian Yorkey). Kitt earned a Tony Award for his score and orchestrations to Next to Normal. He is also at work writing music for Bring It On! with Green and Tony-winning In the Heights composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

In addition to Pacino, the acting company for the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park season will feature Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Solanio/Young Shepherd), Jesse L. Martin (Gratiano/Polixenes), Lily Rabe (Portia/First Gentlewoman), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Prince of Morocco/Leontes) and Max Wright (Old Gobbo/Old Shepherd). Additional casting will be announced shortly.
