Shakespearean Jazz Show, With Fun Home Tony Nominee, Returns to NYC | Playbill

News Shakespearean Jazz Show, With Fun Home Tony Nominee, Returns to NYC Following sold-out performances earlier this summer, The Shakespearean Jazz Show returns to the Cell Theatre Nov. 30. The show combines the words of Shakespeare with a New Orleans jazz beat and features Tony-nominated Fun Home star Emily Skeggs.

"Energetic and innovative, The Shakespearean Jazz Show reinvigorates and recontextualizes Shakespearean performance. Experience how the loose, improvisatory nature of jazz music can free Shakespearean text, allowing the feeling and intent of the words to be expressed in a completely new way," states a description on the Cell Theatre's website.

Created by young artists from Emerson College and Berklee College of Music, the show features the Nine Worthies Band, who perform the Shakespearean scenes and sonnets composed to original New Orleans-style jazz.

Tickets are $30 for both the 7 PM and 9 PM performances and can be purchased by visiting TheCellTheatre.org. The Cell Theatre is located at 338 west 23rd st., New York.
