News Shakespeare's Twelfth Night Gets Folk Twist With Original Songs in NYC Essential Theatre Group presents Twelfth Night: A Folk Musical in the New York International Fringe Festival through Aug. 22 at The Sheen Center - The Loretto.

The cast features Conly Basham, Eliza Gilbert, Christopher Grazul, Ross Hamman, Adam Kampouris, Kate Lydic, Max Nolen, M. Rowan Meyer, Matt Renskers, James Soller, Andrew Start, Jacob Trussell, Lauren Wainwright and Lauren Wiley.

According to press notes, "The classic comedy of shipwrecked siblings and the hilarity that ensues has been reimagined as a folk musical. Featuring on-stage instrumentation and ten original songs inspired by Shakespeare's text, this production breathes new life into a familiar journey through mistaken identities and gender-confused courtships."

Tony Lance conceived and directed the piece, which features original music by Conly Basham.

Other members of the creative team include Matt Renskers (assistant director), Christina Aguilar (production manager), Scott Stein (music director), Samantha Newby (costume consultant), Catherine Clark (lighting designer) and Josh Freilich and Tim Liu (additional music).
