The musical has been seen in university settings over the years, premiering in the late 1980s at Northwestern University and in a revised form for the University of Michigan's then-formative musical theatre program (Brent Wagner directed there). Harnick, the Tony Award-winner considered a master of craft for his lyrics to Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me, The Apple Tree, Fiorello! and The Rothschilds, among other shows, penned book, music and lyrics for Dragons. Fans know that before Harnick partnered with composer Jerry Bock, he wrote both music and lyrics ("The Boston Beguine" is a notable revue song by Harnick).

James Glossman directs the Luna Stage production, with musical direction by Stephen Randoy and choreography by Susan Ancheta.

The musical's plot includes "a dragon, a hero and a damsel in distress" and is billed by Luna Stage as "a fractured fairy tale with a wicked contemporary spin."

The company includes Susan Ancheta, Michael Aquino, Nellie Beavers, Kenneth Boys, Cecily Ellis, Seleena Harkness, Garth Kravits, Kirk Mouser, Paul Murphy, Catherine Rogers, Anita Rundles, Jake Speck and Paul Whelihan.

Designers are Fred Kinney (set), Richard Currie (lighting), Bettina Bierly (costume).

Luna Stage is run by artistic director Jane Mandel and managing director Charlotte McKim.

Performances plays Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM; Sundays at 2 PM.

Tickets range $15-$30. Luna Stage is at 695 Bloomfield Avenue, in Montclair, NJ. For more information, call (973) 744-3309, or visit www.lunastage.org.
