News   Shelley Comes to Life in Villa Diodati at NYMF Beginning Sept. 22
The world of "Frankenstein" author Mary Shelley is explored in the New York Musical Theatre Festival production of Villa Diodati, which begins performances Sept. 22.

Rob Urbinati directs the production, which runs through Oct. 4. Populating the cast are Sarah Arikian (Ragtime), Mark Campbell (Mamma Mia), Elizabeth Cherry (The Fantasticks), Lauren Hauser (Madame Bovary: the Musical) and Sal Sabella (Phantom of the Opera).

Villa Diodati features a score by Mira J. Spektor, lyrics by Colette Inez and a book by both Spektor and Inez. "An American couple visits Villa Diodati the location where Mary Shelley wrote 'Frankenstein,'" according to press notes. "Past and present intermingle as Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron and others come to vivid life in this haunting tale of demons, obsessions and the creation of art."

Villa Diodati features designs by Andis Gjoni (set design), Je Nash (lighting design), Sidney Shannon (costume design) and David M. Lawson (sound design). Musical direction is by Thomas Carlo Bo.
