News Shirley MacLaine Will Get "The Last Word" in New Film With Amanda Seyfried Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfriend are set to star in "The Last Word," a new film written by Stuart Fink and directed and produced by Mark Pellington.

Bleecker Street has acquired U.S. distribution rights to "The Last Word." No release date has been announced.

Here's how the film is described in press notes: "A retired businesswoman named Harriett wants to control everything around her until the bitter end and decides to write her own obituary to make sure her life is told the way she wants it to be. But when Anne, a young writer at the local newspaper, is assigned to the task, she refuses to follow the script and instead insists on finding out the true facts about Harriett’s life. The pair then set out to uncover the ups and downs of Harriett’s life, initially as reluctant partners, and what begins as an attempt to shape her own legacy turns out to be a reawakening of passions for Harriett — and a life altering friendship for Anne."

MacLaine has appeared on Broadway in Me and Juliet, The Pajama Game, Shirley MacLaine and Shirley MacLaine on Broadway. She also starred as Charity Hope Valentine in the film version of "Sweet Charity."

Seyfried recently appeared in The Way We Get By at Second Stage Theatre. She has also starred as Sophie in the movie of "Mamma Mia!" and as Cosette in "Les Misérables."
