News Shrek the Musical Has Fresh Website and New Social Networking Site, "Shrekster" Your screen can be green. The official website for Shrek the Musical — the new Broadway show about a pea-green ogre and his fairy-tale world — is now live, the producers announced Nov. 10.

You can be among the first "to meet the cast and creative team, read updated news about the show, download wallpapers and icons, and hear original music by David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori," according to a statement. Visit www.skrekthemusical.com.

In addition to the website proper, the there is also a comic (but real) social networking site for theatre fans, Shrekster (a spin on Friendster or Facebook) at shrekster.com.

Shrekster was launched on Nov. 7 in association with BroadwayWorld.com. Shrekster "allows fans to build their own profile, connect with other people who love the theatre, and find out more about the characters and story of Shrek the Musical.

Performances for Shrek the Musical began Nov. 8 at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd St.) in New York City. The official opening night is Dec. 14.

Shrek stars Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek, Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad, Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker as Donkey and Tony Award nominee John Tartaglia as Pinocchio. Joining them are Cameron Adams, Haven Burton, Jennifer Cody, Ben Crawford, Bobby Daye, Ryan Duncan, Sarah Jane Everman, Aymee Garcia, Leah Greenhaus, Justin Greer, Lisa Ho, Chris Hoch, Danette Holden, Marty Lawson, Jacob Ming-Trent, Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, Marissa O’Donnell, Denny Paschall, Rachel Resheff, Greg Reuter, Adam Riegler, Noah Rivera, Heather Jane Rolff, Jennifer Simard, Rachel Stern, Dennis Stowe and David F.M. Vaughn.

Shrek the Musical "is an entirely new musical based on the story and characters from William Steig's book 'Shrek!,' as well as the DreamWorks Animation film 'Shrek,' the first chapter of the 'Shrek' movie series."

Shrek features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner, David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie & Caroline, or Change), and is directed by Tony Award nominee Jason Moore, who staged the Tony Award–winning Best Musical, Avenue Q.

Shrek the Musical is DreamWorks Animation's first venture in legitimate theatre. The musical is being produced by DreamWorks Theatricals (Bill Damaschke, president) and Neal Street Productions, Ltd (principals Sam Mendes and Caro Newling).
