Industry News Shubert Organization Launches Production Marketing Arm; Anna Pitera DeVito to Lead

The new department will offer productions in Shubert and non-Shubert-owned theatres comprehensive marketing support.

The Shubert Organization has created a new Production Marketing Department and named Anna Pitera DeVito as its head. DeVito joins the organization after working freelance as marketing director for Broadway's Some Like It Hot and A Doll's House. Her résumé also includes time as global marketing director for Dear Evan Hansen at Stacey Mindich Productions and account lead at advertising firm Serino Coyne.

The move is part of an industry shift that has seen productions hiring freelance marketing directors, fulfilling a role that has been generally handled by the show's advertising agency. Shubert says that the new department will add DeVito's marketing expertise to its larger suite of "marketing and data amenities," and that her services will be available to shows not in Shubert-owned houses along with the organization's tenants. DeVito will continue her work with Some Like It Hot, currently performing at the organization's flagship Shubert Theatre, in her new role.

"Marketing directors have become vital to the success of every Broadway show,” says Shubert Executive Vice President Charles Flateman in a statement. "Incorporating Anna’s skills into Shubert’s already robust team of marketing and ticketing experts allows us to provide a holistic approach and cost-effective array of marketing services to shows, both in Shubert houses and beyond, that was previously unheard of."

The Shubert Organization is Broadway's largest theatre owner, controlling 17 venues on the Main Stem, six Off-Broadway spaces, and the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia. Along with being a producer on numerous productions every season, the group has an extensive footprint in Broadway ticketing. The Shubert's Telecharge is one of Broadway's leading public-facing ticket outlets, and the company runs Broadway Inbound for group sales as well. The organization also has a charitable arm, The Shubert Foundation, dedicated to supporting and advancing live performing arts. The Foundation awarded grants totaling $37.6 million in 2022.
