Broadway's Shucked has set a closing date for January 14, 2024, at the Nederlander Theatre. At closing, the Tony-nominated musical will have played 28 previews and 327 regular performances.
But we certainly haven't seen the last of this show. A North American tour launching next fall was announced earlier this week, and a 2025 West End debut is also on the books. According to The New York Times, producers Mike Bosner and Jason Owen are also hoping that this isn't the end of Shucked's Broadway journey, and are looking for a new Broadway home. Australia will reportedly get a production in spring 2026.
The Broadway production of Shucked received nine Tony nominations at the 2023 awards, with Alex Newell winning the award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for their performance as Lulu.
In addition to Newell, the current Broadway cast also stars Isabelle McCalla as Maizy, John Behlmann as Gordy, Kevin Cahoon as Peanut, Andrew Durand as Beau, Ashley D. Kelley as Storyteller 1, and Grey Henson as Storyteller 2.
Shucked features music by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, a book by Robert Horn, choreography by Sarah O'Gleby, and music supervision, music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Jason Howland. Scenic design is by Scott Pask with costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, sound design by John Shivers, and wig design by Mia Neal. John Miller is the music coordinator, Billy Jay Stein and Hiro Iida of Strange Cranium designed the electronic music, and Juniper Street Productions handles production management.
