News Signature Theatre Will Screen Kenneth Lonergan's "Margaret" in Conjunction With Medieval Play Off-Broadway's Signature Theatre will launch Signature Cinema, screening "films written by playwrights and films that explore the 'world of the play' currently in production," on July 10. The inaugural presentation is Kenneth Lonergan's 2011 film "Margaret."

The screening will be at The Irene Diamond Stage, where Lonergan's new comedy Medieval Play had its world premiere in recent weeks, and continues to June 24.

Lonergan is a playwright-in-residence in Signature's Residency Five program, designed to encourage new works.

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Lonergan ("You Can Count On Me"), "Margaret" is "the story of Lisa (Anna Paquin), a sophisticated Manhattan teenager on the cusp of adulthood whose world is shattered when she inadvertently causes the death of a woman hit by a bus and lies to protect the bus driver," according the Signature. "Setting a course for redemption and justice, Lisa reaches out to Emily (Jeannie Berlin), the deceased's caustic best friend, and finds herself plunged down the rabbit-hole of the New York City legal system. Meanwhile her world is spinning out of control at school, in love, and at home, where she comes into conflict with her single mother Joan (J. Smith-Cameron), an actress, who is on her own quest for love and self-fulfillment."

The film also stars Jean Reno, Allison Janney, Matthew Broderick, Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon. The film had an extended editing process before being released in 2011 at a running time of 150 minutes. Lonergan's plays include The Waverly Gallery, This Is Our Youth, Lobby Hero and The Starry Messenger.

The screening is at 7 PM at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). "By embracing both stage and screen, this new program hopes to foster a new generation of theatregoers who appreciate the arts of both playwriting and screenwriting," according to Signature.

Tickets are $13 for the general public and $5 for Signature Theatre subscribers. Additional film titles will be announced soon.
