News Simon & Schuster's Gaden Is New VP/GM of Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization Bill Gaden will create the position of senior vice president/general manager at The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, joining the company before the end of the year, R&H president Ted Chapin announced Sept. 19.

R&H promotes and protects works written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and many other celebrated musical theatre writers.

"This organization has grown beyond my wildest expectations," says Chapin, "and it is clear that Bill will bring the right combination of experience and vision to help guide us through the challenges of today and the opportunity of tomorrow. His position, newly formed, will embrace two complementary goals: to help the company continue to run efficiently, while working with the extraordinary team we already have in place to maximize potential for the copyrights and authors we represent. We are delighted to welcome Bill to R&H."

Gaden comes to R&H from Simon & Schuster where he has been vice president, sales and subsidiary rights since 2003. In that role, he worked on new business and sales initiatives for the children's book division as well as developing new revenue streams through traditional and non-traditional means. Since graduating from the Harvard Business School in 1989, Gaden has held senior positions in marketing, consumer products and business development at BMG Records, The Estate of Leonard Bernstein, and BBC Worldwide. Gaden graduated magna cum laude from Hamilton College.

Of his new role, Gaden says, "As a lifelong and passionate fan of musical theatre, I am honored and thrilled to be joining The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. I am eager to bring my experience to this dynamic organization, and to create opportunities for it through new initiatives and partnerships."

Founded by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II more than 60 years ago, The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization (R&H) represents a wide variety of entertainment copyrights. Through its theatrical, concert and music publishing divisions, R&H not only represents the works of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, but also Irving Berlin and works by Lorenz Hart, Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sheldon Harnick, Dory Previn, David Zippel, 2004 Tony Award winners Bobby Lopez & Jeff Marx, and 2005 Tony Award winner Adam Guettel, among others. Under the leadership of Theodore S. Chapin, president and executive director, R&H employs a staff of 40 and is headquartered in New York's Broadway theatre district with an annex in Chelsea.
