News "Simpsons" Writer Adapts "The Goonies" as Stage Musical "The Goonies" may search for One-Eyed Willie's treasure in a new musical adventure. The classic 1985 film about a group of misfit kids is taking steps towards a stage debut, according to EmpireOnline.com.

"Goonies" director Richard Donner revealed at a recent press junket for the 25th anniversary DVD release of the film that "Simpsons" writer Tim Long had delivered a musical adaptation of the property.

"It's been taking forever," Donner replied when asked about a Broadway musical adaptation, "but that long process just got a lot shorter. There's a great writer/producer called Tim Long who does musicals on 'The Simpsons' which are classic. He just delivered a treatment of 'The Goonies' as a musical, and it's friggin' great!"

Long most recently penned the "Elementary School Musical" episode of "The Simpsons," which included guest appearances from the "Glee" cast as well as references to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elaine Stritch and "Angels in America."
