News Sir Alec Guinness' Art Collection to Be Auctioned

Sir Alec Guinness' art collection is to be auctioned in London later this month.

Sir John Giegud's and Sir Ralph Richardson's auctions earlier this year saw an informal gathering of the cream of the West End, and Sir Alec's sale is likely to provide a similar display of thespians both at the pre-sale viewing and the auction itself.

Sir Alec, who began his career on stage and was given his first West End break by John Gielgud before the war, was a natural theatre talent but is best remembered for his many leading roles at the cinema - in a number of comedies like "The Man in the White Suit" and "Kind Hearts and Coronets" and in David Lean epics like "The Bridge on the River Kwai" - plus, latterly, on television in classic series like "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy."
