The colors are the colors of Only Make Believe, a non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities; the lighting ceremony commemorates Only Make Believe's 11th anniversary. A gala benefit concert will be held Nov. 1 at the Shubert Theatre, hosted by McKellen.

Only Make Believe, which "is dedicated to the principle that freeing a child’s imagination is a valuable part of the healing process," according to notes, was founded by Dena Hammerstein in 1999 in memory of her husband, James Hammerstein.
