Classic Arts News Slatkin-DSO Extension 'in Works' Leonard Slatkin will start his new job as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's music director next fall, but a two-year extension to his three-year contract is already "in the works," the conductor told the AP.
Slatkin has been participating in planning and programming meetings, the agency reports.

"We have the ultimate partner, the ultimate collaborator," said orchestra president and executive director Anne Parsons. "We were looking for someone who fit us like a glove, and this is what we found."

Slatkin will lead half of the DSO's concerts in 2009-10.
