According to the Hollywood Reporter, Messing's casting is in second position to "Smash," which is unlikely to return for a third season due to low ratings and the move to a Saturday evening timeslot beginning April 6.

The single-camera project, based on an Israeli format, revolves around Shira (Messing), a married mother of three, as she struggles to balance family, life and work as a ghostwriter to a celebrity chef.

Messing will also receive a co-executive producer credit.

Rottenberg and Zuritsky, co-executive producers on the first season of "Smash," will write and executive produce the pilot. Avi Nir, Ran Telem, Daniela London-Dekel and Dana Eden are also executive producers.
