Veteran theatre couple Lois Smith (The Trip to Bountiful, Dividing the Estate) and David Margulies (Chasing Manet, Conversations With My Father) star as married couple Lillian and Charlie, respectively, under the direction of Jo Bonney (subUrbia, Father Comes Home from the Wars). Lil's 90th began previews Jan. 8 and runs through Feb. 7 on Long Wharf's Stage II.

The cast also features Kristine Nielsen (Why Torture Is Wrong, Die Mommie Die), Nick Blaemire (Cry-Baby, Glory Days) and Lucy Walters (Bang Day, F*ckPlays).

According to press notes, "As Lillian nears a milestone birthday, she and her family put the finishing touches on the much-anticipated party at which she’ll make her singing debut. There’s a speech to be written, a band to rehearse and, of course, an outfit to be chosen. But then Lil’s husband Charlie’s secret gets out - the birthday surprise that he hoped would make her day may instead tear their lives apart."

The production has set design by Frank Alberino, lighting by Lap Chi Chu, costumes by Ilona Somogyi and sound design by Jill DuBoff. April Donahower is the dramaturg. Erin Hill musical directs.
