News Soho Rep Readies to Launch Inaugural Developmental Series Soho Rep, the Obie Award-winning theatre company, will launch its inaugural Soho Rep Studio series on Sept. 24, under the guidance of new artistic director Sarah Benson and executive director Alexandra Conley.

The 32-year-old company recently made the transition from Off-Off to Off-Broadway status. With the changes came an expanded season featuring new and developing works from emerging and established artists.

The first production set for the Soho Rep Studio series on Sept. 24 is the Theater of a Two-Headed Calf's interpretation of Macbeth. The adaptation explores only the Lady Macbeth and Macbeth scenes asking, "How does the silent violence, resentment, and disappointment seething between a man and his wife play out on a battlefield?"

Macbeth will feature Jess Barbagallo, Mike Mikos and Heidi Schreck, and will have music performed live by Ian Antonio, Brendan Connelly and Russell Greenburg. The production will play the Teatro La Tea at CSV Cultural Center.

David Adjmi's Caligula is up next, combining the story of Caligula with Alfred Hitchcock's film "Psycho." Press notes state, "A lonely, middle aged professor at a posh boarding school . . . is becoming increasingly undone by lust for his students. Perhaps Mother could be of some assistance with his romantic problems, or must she be killed…again?" Reed Birney and Jesse J. Perez will be featured among the cast. Caligula will play the Soho Rep performance space on Sept. 26.

Born bad by Laurence Olivier Award winner Debbie Tucker Green will play the Soho Rep performance space on Oct. 1. Production notes state, "Dawta wants the family to talk, but they have never talked like this before. A family embroiled in an argument, with a skeleton in the closet." The work features Sandra Daley, Patrice Johnson, Lizan Mitchell and Heather Alicia Simms. Sybil Kempson's one-woman show Crime or Emergency, featuring music by Mike Iveson, will play Soho Rep's performance space Jan. 11-13, 2008.

The series will conclude with the debut of Somewhere Fun by Soho Rep playwright-in-residence Jenny Schwartz. Schwartz is the inaugural Dorothy Strelsin Playwrighting Fellow, whose residence culminates in the workshop reading on May 20 and 21.
