For a brief time this spring, there will be two Some Like It Hot musicals playing New York stages: the critically acclaimed new Broadway musical at the Shubert Theatre and the 1972 musical Sugar, both based on Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond's screenplay for the 1959 film.

Sugar, featuring music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and a book by Peter Stone, will be presented April 27-May 7 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row, one of three musicals that will be part of J2 Spotlight Musical Theater Company's third season at the Off-Broadway venue. Sugar, starring Robert Morse and Tony Roberts, played 14 previews and 505 regular performances at Broadway's Majestic in 1972.

J2's new season will launch April 13-23 with the Tony-nominated musical Woman of the Year, an adaptation of the classic film starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Peter Stone, the musical won four 1981 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical for Lauren Bacall.

The spring season will conclude with the Tony-nominated musical The Goodbye Girl, which opened on Broadway in 1993 co-starring Tony winners Bernadette Peters and Martin Short. Based on Neil Simon's film of the same name, the musical features a book by playwright Simon, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by David Zippel. Performances are scheduled for May 11-21. 

Casting and creative teams will be announced at a later date.
