Moving On, a special 70th birthday revue of Stephen Sondheim's greatest works, has moved on from its 2000 world premiere at the United Kingdom's Bridewell Theatre (where Saturday Night also took its first stage bows in 1997) to California's Laguna Playhouse. The musical theatre retrospective plays Oct. 30-Dec. 2. David Kernan, the show's original conceiver and director, repeats his duties in the U.S.

Between numbers from Sondheim's many acclaimed musicals, Moving On features audio clips from a 40 minute interview conducted with the composer-lyricist of A Little Night Music, Follies, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George and Into the Woods talking about his life and works. Songs in the evening include "Another Hundred People," "Broadway Baby," "Someone Is Waiting," "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid," "Old Friends," "The Miller's Son," "Hello Little Girl," "In Buddy's Eyes," "The Ladies Who Lunch," "There Won't be Trumpets," "Not a Day Goes By," and several songs from films Sondheim has worked on including "No, Mary Ann" (the unproduced "The Thing of It Is"), "Goodbye for Now" ("Reds") and "Back in Business" ("Dick Tracy").

Three Sondheim vets, Teri Ralston, Ann Morrison and David Engel, lead the revue with Christopher Carothers (Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel) and Tami Tappan (Cyrano, Miss Saigon) also in the cast. Ralston starred in the original companies of Company and A Little Night Music (Mrs. Nordstrom of the Quintet), while Morrison appeared in the original Merrily We Roll Along and Engel in the recent Broadway revival of Putting It Together.

Gene Castle choreographs with musical direction by Diane King Vann. The design team features Dwight Richard Odle (sets), Paulie Jenkins (lighting), Michael Pacciorini (costumes) and David Edwards (sound).
