Songs from Gypsy, Merrily We Roll Along, Anyone Can Whistle, Into the Woods, Company, Follies, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Bounce, West Side Story, Evening Primrose and more will be featured in the revue, which plays Zankel Hall Sept. 30-Oct. 9 with an official opening set for Oct. 5.

According to production notes, Opening Doors takes audiences on an "intimate journey through Stephen Sondheim's life, highlighted by pre recorded narration by the composer himself. The program features over 40 of Sondheim's songs, including many of his most popular works. Grouped thematically, each section represents memorable times in the composer's life — from childhood, his schooling, and growing up in New York City to personal opinions on friendship and posterity as well as work and career. Each musical section is then linked using the composer's narrations and corresponding images of his life and works."

Opening Doors features a cast of five: Jan Maxwell, Gregg Edelman, Victoria Clark, Kate Baldwin and Eric Jordan Young. David Kernan directs the production, which was first staged in London and then titled Moving On. In addition to director Kernan, the creative team will also include James Scott Wise (choreographer), Walt Spangler (scenic designer), Jane Greenwood (costume consultant), Peter Hylenski (sound designer), Jason Carr (musical arrangements), Rob Berman (music director and piano).

Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim has written a plethora of musicals, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Passion. He also contributed lyrics to West Side Story and Gypsy, and his newest musical, Bounce, recently played Chicago and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. His revised production of The Frogs — starring Nathan Lane — is currently on stage at Lincoln Center Theater. Sondheim was also celebrated at the Kennedy Center with all-star stagings of six of his musicals — Company, Sweeney, Merrily, Night Music, Sunday and Passion.
