News Songs From New Russell-Hood Musical Unexpected Joy Presented July 30 at the Beechman Lyricist-librettist Bill Russell, best known to Broadway audiences for the Tony-nominated musical Side Show, will present an evening of his songs July 30 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.

The 7 PM concert will feature the vocal talents of Nick Cearley, Heather Mac Rae and Alysha Umphress. Musical director Michael Lavine will accompany the performers on piano. Cabaretgoers can expect to hear tunes from several of Russell's musicals as well as songs from his latest project, Unexpected Joy, which features music by Janet Hood. Hood previously collaborated with Russell on the musical revue Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens.

Bill Russell, who wrote the book and lyrics for Side Show, also penned the book and lyrics for Off-Broadway's Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens and Pageant. His other book/lyric credits include Lucky Duck, Kept, Fourtune, The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Family Style.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located in Manhattan at 407 West 42nd Street. There is a $10 cover charge and a $15 food/drink minimum. Call (212) 695-6909 for reservations between the hours of 12 noon and 8 PM.
