News Songs of Sondheim, Joel and Music Man to Be Part of NSO Season at the Kennedy Center Sondheim at 80, an evening celebrating the 80th birthday of the famed, Tony-winning Broadway composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, will be part of the 2009-2010 National Symphony Orchestra season at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The Sondheim fest is scheduled for May 6-8, 2010, at the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall. Marvin Hamlisch will conduct the famed orchestra; performers will be announced at a later date. The new season will kick off Sept. 24, 2009, with Ben Folds Rocks the Pops; An Evening with Chris Botti will be presented Oct. 29-31.

From Nov. 27-29, concertgoers can enjoy The Music of "The Music Man." Hamlisch will again conduct the orchestra for the three concerts, which feature tunes from the famed Meredith Willson musical. Shirley Jones and Patrick Cassidy are among the current confirmed performers; additional artists will be announced.

Happy Holidays! — an evening of holiday classics — will be offered Dec. 10-13, and Academy Award-winning songs will be featured in And the Winner Is. . . Feb. 11-13, 2010.

Tony-nominated Movin' Out star Michael Cavanaugh will be seen in Michael Cavanaugh in Concert: The Music of Billy Joel and More April 17, 2010. That evening will feature Steven Reineke conducting the NSO.

The season will conclude with Classical Mystery Tour, June 24-26, 2010. Those concerts are described as such: "Imagine The Beatles playing in concert with a symphony orchestra. What would that have sounded like? Find out when Classical Mystery Tour performs live with the NSO Pops, conducted by Martin Herman."
