The film stars Romain Duris, Fabrice Luchini, Laura Morante, Edouard Baer and Ludivine Sagnier and was written by Laurent Tirard and Grégoire Vigneron. Press notes describe the film as such: "In 1644, the playwright Molière was not yet 22 years old, and was producing and starring in his own plays. He was also debt-ridden and constantly chased by bailiffs. He ended up imprisoned for some time, then suddenly disappeared."
The film speculates that during the little-known period of Molière's absence, he "encountered the woman who would give him the key to himself and impassion him like never before."
Molière's many plays include The Misanthrope, Tartuffe, The Imaginary Invalid, Don Juan and The Miser.
