News South Pacific to Play the Beaumont in 2008 Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque will sing again on Broadway when Lincoln Center Theater mounts the first Main Stem revival of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific during the 2007-2008 theatre season.

In a Variety interview with Lincoln Center Theater artistic director Andre Bishop, Bishop says the revival of the 1949 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will be presented at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in spring 2008. As previously announced, Bartlett Sher — who was Tony-nominated for his direction of The Light in the Piazza — will helm the South Pacific revival. No casting has been announced. Lincoln Center Theater is currently presenting Tom Stoppard's Coast of Utopia trilogy at the Beaumont. That production will now play through May 13, 2007. Following the mammoth undertaking that is Utopia, Bishop jokingly promises a "very, very small play" in fall 2007.

South Pacific features songs by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II and was drawn from James Michener's "Tales of the South Pacific." Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza co-starred in the original Broadway production, which boasted such classic songs as "Some Enchanted Evening," "Younger Than Springtime," "Bali H'ai" and "A Wonderful Guy."
