Atlanta's Horizon Theatre Company presents the Southeastern premiere of Marian X's The Screened in Porch, running through Apr. 13.

Directed by Horizon co-artistic director Lisa Adler, The Screened in Porch reveals two women who reunite after 35 years, by unexpectedly becoming neighbors. They are called to reflection when one of the women's 25-year-old daughter shows up in a crisis.

Playwright Marian X said the play examines "what it means for a woman to turn 50, both in terms of sexuality and place in society," focusing on, as X puts it "stuff that you all think about but don't want to say."

X's poetic style was developed through several years of playwrighting and being a member of Sangoma, the Woman's Company at Crossroads Theatre in New Jersey, where Porch premiered in 1996. Her works have been read and produced at theatres across the country such as Theatre Center Philadelphia, St. Louis Black Repertory, Penumbra Theatre, Oregon Stage Company, Freedom Theatre and the Oakland Ensemble Theatre.

The cast of Porch includes Andrea Frye, recently from the Alliance Theatre's Seven Guitars, and Sharlene Ross, who has also appeared in several productions at the Alliance. For tickets or more information, please refer to the Horizon Theatre regional listing on Playbill On-Line.
