News   Souvenir, with Edwards and Danielsen, Opens La Mirada Season Sept. 12
Stephen Temperley's comedy based on the life of vocally challenged soprano Florence Foster Jenkins, Souvenir, begins its run at La Mirada Theatre Sept. 12.

Starring Linda Edwards as Jenkins, Souvenir is the first production of the 2008-2009 La Mirada season. Joining Edwards onstage is Carl J. Danielsen, who portrays accompanist and narrator Cosme McMoon.

Jason Edwards directs the engagement, which runs through Sept. 28.

Press notes for the La Mirada presentation of Souvenir read: "Real-life eccentric heiress Florence Foster Jenkins fancied herself a coloratura soprano – but the exact opposite was true! Despite being called 'majestically awful,' her concerts in the 1930s and '40s, including a legendary appearance at Carnegie Hall, were not only sold-out but were attended by the crème de la crème of Manhattan society. Told affectionately through the eyes of her longtime accompanist Cosme McMoon, Souvenir is the sweet and inspiring, and yes, hilarious, portrait of a passionate music lover who believed that 'what matters most is the music you hear in your head.'"

Designing Souvenir are Gary Wissmann (set design), Kent Sheranian (lighting design), Josh Bessom (sound design), Richard Odle (costume design) and Terry Hanrahan (properties design).

Tickets can be purchased by calling (562) 944-9801 or (714) 994-6310. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is located at 14900 La Mirada Boulevard in La Mirada, CA. For more information visit
