Esparza, who earned critical praise for his work in the recent Broadway revival of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow, will portray a district attorney on the television series, according to Entertainment Weekly.
An airdate for the episode, which begins shooting this week, has not been announced. The new season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" premieres April 19.
Esparza's television appearances also include "Pushing Daisies," "Find Me Guilty" and "Spin City." Esparza has earned Tony nominations for his work in The Homecoming, Company and Taboo.
