The Post says that Spider producers have reached out to director Philip William McKinley, whose sole Broadway credit is the Hugh Jackman musical The Boy from Oz. McKinley has also directed Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. A spokesperson for the musical says the Post story is untrue. In a statement, press representative Rick Miramontez said, "There is no truth to the rumor of a co-director. The production has not brought anyone on and the original creative team remains firmly in place, with Julie Taymor at the helm."
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark features a book by Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. The musical had originally been announced to arrive during the 2009 season, but was postponed due to financing.
After several postponements this season, the production is currently scheduled to open at the Foxwoods Theatre March 15.
