According to the film's official website, the motion picture will open March 27 at Landmark Sunshine (in New York, NY), the Laemmle Sunset 5 (Los Angeles, CA), Landmark E Street (Washington, DC) and Landmark Kendall Square (Boston, MA). On May 1 the Screen Media Film release will be seen at the River Oaks Theatre (Houston, TX) and the Landmark Magnolia (Dallas, TX).

Mark Brokaw directed the film, which features a screenplay by Gilman and Doug Atchison.

"Spinning Into Butter," according to press notes, is described as such: "A vicious hate crime at an elite New England college thrusts the new dean of students into the investigation. When charged with maintaining order on campus, she is forced to examine her own feelings about race."

In addition to "Sex and the City" star Parker, the cast also features Beau Bridges, Miranda Richardson and Mykelti Williamson.

The play debuted at the Goodman Theatre in 1999, where Mary Beth Fisher played the lead and Les Waters directed. A 2000 Lincoln Center Theater production star Hope Davis and was directed by Daniel Sullivan.

Gilman's other plays include Boy Gets Girl and Blue Surge.
