The Tony-winning team behind Spring Awakening will reunite to pen a new theatre-inspired series, also concerning young adults coming to terms with their sexuality and identity.

Sater is set to co-write and executive produce a new musical television series inspired by Twelfth Night, according to Deadline. Sheik has been tapped to compose songs with him for the Amazon pilot.

The series follows a young man and his partner, who is just starting to identity as gender-fluid. Over a winter break on an empty college campus, the two set out to present an original musical take on the Shakespeare comedy, which ignites a sexual exploration between them and their fellow students.

The project hails from Sater and Insatiable creator Lauren Gussis, along with Ryan Seacrest Productions and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend executive producer Marc Webb (who will also direct the pilot).

Sheik and Sater won a Tony Award in 2007 for their score to Spring Awakening, with Sater also winning for his book. Their latest musical, Alice By Heart, will receive its world premiere Off-Broadway next year as part of MCC Theater's upcoming season.
