Karen Trott's solo comedy, The Springhill Singing Disaster, playing Off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theatre, has posted a "Final Weeks" notice in its New York Times ABC advertisement.

Production spokesman Tom D'Ambrosio told Playbill On-Line such a posting wasn't necessarily a dire threat of imminent closing. "The run is still open-ended with no closing date. It could run to the end of the year. Producers sometimes put up closing notices several weeks in advance to spur ticket sales."

Lonny Price directs the comedy, which was first workshopped at Connecticut's Long Wharf Theatre, May, 1993. The show was well enough received at a 1995 Playwrights Horizons mounting to spur the commercial run on 47th Street, which opened in November.

Trott appeared on Broadway in Strider and Barnum, and she had leading roles Off-Broadway in Song Of Singapore and Three Postcards. Director Lonny Price has staged the Encores! Concert staging of Pal Joey and American Jewish Theatre's The Rothschilds. Sets for Springhill are by Derek McLane, costumes by Gail Brassard, lighting by Phil Monat, and sound by Red Ramona.

D'Ambrosio told Playbill On-Line the closest Springhill came to a disaster was during an opening week matinee, when a Chinese food delivery person with the wrong address came into the theatre, waving his packages and announcing, "Delivery!
