News Stage Musical of Baseball Film "Bull Durham" in Development A new musical based on the 1988 film "Bull Durham" will receive a New York City lab this month. The film's original director and writer Ron Shelton is collaborating with folk singer-songwriter Susan Werner on the New York-aimed project.

Laura Stanczyk and Jack Viertel, who is the artistic director of the City Center Encores! series, are producing the romantic musical comedy.

Kip Fagan (The Revisionist) is directing Bull Durham, which is set within the world of minor league baseball. Screenwriter Shelton has adapted his screenplay for the musical, which has music and lyrics by Werner.

Joshua Bergasse ("Smash") will choreograph three-week lab with musical direction by Jason DeBord.

Broadway dates have not been confirmed, but producers are aiming for a future New York production.

Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins starred in the Academy Award-nominated film, which earned screenwriter Shelton an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay.
