What show recently impressed you?
Well, I didn't see a lot this summer, but most recently I was at the opening of First Date. It was very funny. Great cast. I road-tripped and saw some friends in shows this summer, and they all killed it. Les Miz at the Muny, Stages Legally Blonde and saw the Surflight Les Miz, too. Ha, I guess I saw more than I thought! So, you can say I was impressed by all.
What production are you most excited to see?
Well, there are so many cool things coming in … Betrayal with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz. Rocky The Musical... Big Fish... Maybe some surprises, too! Broadway is so limitless, and I'm a big fan.
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
I think Chess has a lot of potential. It's loved all over the world. It has an awesome score, but it has been hard to stage and pull off. Hey, does that ring a bell? Freddie, The American would be the obvious choice, but it's nice to play against the obvious. Maybe I could be The Russian, Anatoly!
What are your current/upcoming projects?
It was nice to have some time to be with my family this summer and take it down a bit. I have been going pretty hard for a few years. The hustle never stops though. I'm back in the studio writing again with some amazing people, and I'm launching a new residency at The Canal Room here in NYC. A show called Back To The Eighties with myself and the band Jessie's Girl. Jessie’s Girl is an amazing ensemble of players and singers — everyone is featured. It's a real song-book show, a celebration of great popular songs from the eighties. I'm so excited for everyone to meet them in the Broadway scene. I will be appearing with them every Saturday night at 8 PM and 11:30 PM starting on Sept. 21st for six weeks.
