What show recently impressed you?
I was terrifically impressed by Annie Baker's play, Flick. I loved the elegant pace of it. I loved the quiet, warm, exacting way the play and the production observed life and the people living it. And, I loved all of the performances. I felt particular reverence for Matthew Maher's deeply humane, funny, subtle performance. It's one of my favorite performances I've ever seen.
What production are you most excited to see?
I'm looking forward to seeing Once because I've heard the great David Patrick Kelly does a number on his banjo. Also, I'm keen to see Nikolai and the Others because I have no doubt that David Cromer will bring his usual rare brand of brilliance and poetry and insight.
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
Gosh, I'd like to play Lucky in Waiting for Godot. I'd kill to play Lady M, appropriately enough. Any of the women of our beautiful American, Tennessee Williams. I am originally from Laurel, Mississippi, and feel particularly tied to his work. It goes without saying I hope to play Masha in Chekhov's Three Sisters. I'd love to work on a revival of any of Craig Lucas' work. This list is one that goes on and on... It is difficult to stop there. But I will.
What are your current/upcoming projects?
After I finish The Big Knife, I am going to do a beautiful new play called The Patron Saint of Sea Monsters with, among others, my boyfriend, Rob Campbell. It's by Marlane Meyer, directed by Lisa Peterson, and it'll be at Playwrights Horizons. I feel very lucky.
