Here, via email, we hear from singing actress Christine Dwyer, who is currently starring as Elphaba in the hit musical Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre.

What show recently impressed you?
I have to give a shout out to two shows that recently impressed me! Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is one. Jessie Mueller is incredible. She's so honest and easy to watch….she pours her heart out, and the way she sings this music is just amazing. I can't say enough about her. I've been lucky enough to see it at a bunch of different stages. In San Fran, opening night here and the Actors Fund performance. And it gets better every time. And, the whole show is so seamlessly directed with amazing costume changes, set changes; the sound was like a rock concert, vocals are perfect, the band was awesome…and, of course, all the songs tug at your heartstrings. Casa Valentina is another show I recently saw that I loved loved loved. I didn't know what to expect when I walked into that theatre, and from the moment it started I was laughing and crying uncontrollably. Joe Mantello directed this group of incredible actors so beautifully. And, I have to give a shout out to Tom McGowan, who I witnessed walking around backstage at Wicked in heels trying to get ready for his character. He nailed it!

What production are you most excited to see?
Hedwig!!! I've only seen the movie but was obsessed with it….know all the lyrics. I can't wait to see that.

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
I would really love to play Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee in Gypsy….Viola in Twelfth Night... Oh, and does Cabaret count? Sally Bowles... Those are all dream roles of mine!

What are your current/upcoming projects?
Right now just settling into playing this green girl eight times a week at Wicked. It's been a little easier the second time around after doing it on the road…now being able to go home after the show and sleep in my own bed really makes a difference. I'd really like to put out an album at some point….more rock and roll stuff, which is what I love to sing…So hopefully I can start working on that soon. Get back up to date on my guitar skills… My managers are awesome and are always looking for new things for me to be a part of! That's the next step for me I hope! I'd love to be a part of a new show and create a character from the ground up.
