News Staged Reading of Harry & Eddie, with Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson, Presented July 29 Veteran theatre couple Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson take the stage together in the July 29 staged reading of Mark Weston's Harry & Eddie: The Birth of Israel at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons.

James L. LaRocca directs the staged reading, which also features Rik Colitti, Richard Horwich and Ed Schiff.

The production explores the relationship between former U.S. President Harry S. Truman and fellow World War I veteran, Eddie Jacobson. This friendship would become a key in the founding of the nation of Israel.

Press notes state, "Eddie became a traveling salesman and Harry, a politician, but their friendship endured. Harry was President in 1948 when the United Nations were contemplating the recognition of a homeland for the Jewish people. President Truman was adamant about not being harassed by Zionists. As a last resort, Jewish leaders asked Eddie to intercede with Harry Truman. Eddie visited the White House and after having their first argument, Harry agreed to meet with eminent scientist and Jewish Leader Chaim Weizman. On May 18, 1948, Israel was welcomed into the world family of nations."

Married almost 60 years, Wallach and Jackson have performed together on Broadway numerous times in such productions as King Henry VIII, Yellow Jack, Rhinoceros, Twice Around the Park and The Flowering Peach, among others. Wallach is a Tony Award winner for his work in The Rose Tattoo.

Harry & Eddie: The Birth of Israel will take place at 7:30 PM at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, located at 44 Woods Lane in East Hampton, NY. Tickets are $35 and are available by calling (631) 324-4050.
