Disney's Beauty and the the Beast opened to a standing ovation May 8.

Among the celebrities that were invited to the premiere were Marga Lopez (currently starring in Moon Over Buffalo), Helena Rojo, Rebecca Jones, Alejandro Camacho, Olivia Collins, Martha Chapa and the French Ambassador for Mexico, Bruno Delaye.

According to Lourdes Gomez, press representative for the show, it is sold out through May 28.

Beauty and the Beast has set the top ticket price for a musical in the history of theatre in Mexico, orchestra seats are priced $450.00 pesos (about $57 US), while other recent productions like Grease!, Woman of the Year and Kiss of Spider Woman offered orchestra seats for $100.00 (about $12.50 US).

There are plans for a Mexican cast recording, altough no recording date has been set. The Mexican Beauty and the Beast is produced by Walt Disney Theatrical Productions in association with OCESA, a mexican entertainment company.
