The movie marathon will help celebrate the nationwide release of the eagerly awaited "Rent" film, which is also scheduled for Nov. 23. The "Rent" feature — entitled "On the Set: Rent" — will include a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Chris Columbus-directed film as well as the television premiere of a musical number from the motion picture. "On the Set: Rent" will air at 12:05 AM on Nov. 24.
"Stage to Screen" kicks off at 6 PM with the film "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead." Other movies scheduled include "Six Degrees of Separation" (Nov. 23 at 8:05 PM), "Vanya on 42nd Street" (Nov. 23 at 10 PM) and "Lost in Yonkers" (Nov. 24 at 12:20 AM).
The "Rent" film boasts many of the stars of the original Broadway production. Those reprising their roles for the film, which features a screenplay by director Columbus and Stephen Chbosky, include Anthony Rapp (as Mark Cohen), Taye Diggs (as Benjamin "Benny" Coffin III), Wilson Jermaine Heredia (as Angel Schunard), Jesse L. Martin (as Thomas B. "Thom" Collins), Idina Menzel (as Maureen Johnson) and Adam Pascal (as Roger Davis). Newcomers include Rosario Dawson as Mimi with Tracie Thoms as Joanne Jefferson. The roles of Mimi and Joanne were created on Broadway by, respectively, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Fredi Walker.
