News Stephen Schwartz Succeeds John Weidman as Dramatists Guild President The Dramatists Guild of America — the national association of playwrights, composers and lyricists — announced March 19 that Guild president John Weidman, vice-president Marsha Norman, secretary David Ives and treasurer Jonathan Reynolds are stepping down from their respective offices.

Composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz was elected to succeed Weidman. In a statement Weidman said, "It's been an honor to serve as president of this unique and essential organization and a pleasure to have collaborated for the last ten years with my vice-president, Marsha Norman. I look forward to continuing to serve the Guild under the able and exciting leadership of the new administration."

Schwartz added, "I'm extremely honored my fellow dramatists have chosen me to be the president of their Guild. On behalf of all of my fellow Guild members, I would like to thank John Weidman and Marsha Norman and the other officers for their amazingly productive work and the dedication that they've shown over the last ten years. I hope to continue to move the Guild forward in the direction they have led and to try to live up to their very high standards."

The Guild also named Peter Parnell as vice-president, Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright as secretary and Theresa Rebeck as treasurer.
