Based on the Italian film "Passion d'Amore," Passion tells the story of a soldier — involved in an affair with a married woman — who finds love in an ailing woman. The musical opened on Broadway on May 9, 1994, starring Jere Shea, Marin Mazzie and Donna Murphy. The original Broadway production won four Tony Awards including Best for Donna Murphy, Best Original Score for Sondheim, Best Book for Lapine and the top prize as Best Musical.

The 114-minute DVD is taken from the PBS broadcast of the Broadway production and will feature new audio commentary with collaborators Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine, Donna Murphy, Jere Shea, Marin Mazzie, and Ira Weitzman. The disc also features an extended version (audio-only) of the song "No One Has Ever Loved Me" performed by Shea.
