The Fleet Street fringe theatre has a long association with the American composer, and has made something of a specialty of staging his works. Among the many Sondheim shows staged here was a memorable promenade performance of Sweeney Todd. Anyone Can Whistle pokes cynical fun at small-town America while also managing to tell a strange but moving story about a love affair between a control-freak psychiatric nurse and a delightfully unconventional patient. Song titles include "With So Little To Be Sure Of," "Anyone Can Whistle," "Everybody Says Don't" and "There Won't Be Trumpets." Under the direction of Mark Etherington, the cast includes Edward Baker Duly, Janie Dee, Mark Heenehan, Aaron Shirley, James Smillie and Paula Wilcox.
