Joining in the celebration of Noel Coward's centenary, the McCarter Theatre of Princeton, NJ, will present the English playwright's classic comedy, Design for Living, May 4-23 (official opening May 7). Francesca Faridany, Jared Reed and Jeff Woodman will play the members of the play's stylish menage a trois.

Stephen Wadsworth, who directed Beth Henley's Impossible Marriage at the Roundabout Theater Company last year, will mount the production.

The comedy, risque for the time, concerned the shifting love alliances between a trio of urbane friends: Otto, a painter; Leo, a playwright; and Gilda, their muse. After Gilda tries love with Otto and then Leo, she flees into the staid arms of an art dealer, only to be rescued from respectability by the charmingly decadent Otto and Leo. Design for Living famously debuted in 1933, starring Coward and the renowned acting team of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.

Coward was born in 1899 and died in 1973. A production of his late work, Waiting in the Wings, is planned for Broadway later this year, while new mountings of Hay Fever and Private Lives will debut in London this spring.

Also in the McCarter cast are Sarah Brooke, Mark Chamberlain, Shelley Reynolds, Kevin Hogan and Michael Medico. For information, call (609) 683-8000.
