The Chicago company also announced new productions of The Fall to Earth by Joel Drake Johnson and Winesburg, Ohio by Eric Rosen.
Nickel and Dimed, based on Barbara Ehrenreich's bestseller about living on minimum wage, "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America," will play Oct. 30-Nov. 30. Jeremy Cohen will direct. The adaptation had its premiere in July 2002 at Seattle's Intiman Theatre. Since then, it has played the Mark Taper in Los Angeles and Trinity Rep in Providence, RI. The Steppenwolf staging is a co-production with Naked Eye Theatre Company.
The Fall to Earth, which runs March 25-April 25, 2004, is Johnson's tale of a mother and daughter brought close together by an unexpected death. Steppenwolf regular Rondi Reed plays the mother. Another ensemble member, Rick Snyder, directs.
Rosen's Winesburg, Ohio is an adaptation of Sherwood Anderson seminal novel about life beneath the placid surfaces of smalltown America. The musical has a score by Andre Pluess and Ben Sussman. The show is a rare venture into musical theatre for Steppenwolf, and is a co-production with About Face Theatre. Jessica Thebus directs. Dates are June 17-July 18, 2004.
