News Steve Carell and Natalie Portman Read "The Apartment" Live in L.A. Nov. 17 Steve Carell and Natalie Portman take part in a sold-out reading of Billy Wilder's "The Apartment" Nov. 17 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Jason Reitman, who created the "Live Read" series, announced the starry casting via his Twitter account throughout the day on Nov. 17. The 1960 film about an eager corporate man who finds himself with in-demand real-estate served as the basis for the Broadway musical Promises, Promises.

Carell ("The Office") portrays Baxter (originated on screen by Jack Lemmon), with Portman ("Black Swan") as Fran Kubelik (originated by Shirley MacLaine) and Jake Johnson ("No Strings Attached") as Dr. Dreyfuss (originated by Jack Kruschen).

The cast also features Nick Kroll, Mindy Kaling, Ken Jeong, Collette Wolfe and JK Simmons.
