News Steve Kazee to Star in Nancy Drew Spinoff The Tony winner is tapped to play the lead male in the new CBS drama.

According to Deadline, Tony winner Steve Kazee has been cast to star in a new CBS pilot titled Drew, based on the Nancy Drew character from the popular mystery series. As previously reported, Sarah Shahi has been tapped to play the title role.

Kazee, who won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in Once, will play the male lead Ned, an investigative reporter for the New York Times and Nancy's ex-boyfriend.

Deadline reports that the pilot is written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by James Strong. It presents Nancy in her 30’s, now working as a detective for the NYPD. The Nancy Drew character, a female detective with acute observation skills, was first created by Edward Stratemeyer in 1930. The character has evolved over the decades and been featured in a number of books and on screen, including the 1977 TV series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries and the 2007 film, Nancy Drew.
