News Steve Martin-Edie Brickell Musical Bright Star Premieres at Vassar Bright Star, the new musical by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, begins its sold-out run July 12 as part of the Vassar & New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater season.

Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago, Venus in Fur) directs the production that runs through July 14 at Martel Theater on the Vassar College campus in Poughkeepsie, NY. It has a score by Martin ("SNL," "Father of the Bride," "The Jerk") and Brickell of the New Bohemians. Martin also penned the book. The cast features Stephen Bogardus (Falsettos), Mare Winningham (Tribes), Michael Esper (American Idiot, The Lyons), Cory Michael Smith (Breakfast at Tiffany's, C*ck), Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening), Skipp Sudduth (South Pacific) and Carmen Cusack (Wicked, South Pacific, Carrie).

Here's how it's billed: "Bright Star brings to life a stirring story set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The story takes us between 1945 and 1922, as a young man returns from war and uncovers hidden yearnings and dark secrets about his past."
